Parking 16-17

For use in 2017 Student Fee Survey!

The Parking and Transportation Fee (PTF) currently supports the following aspects of UMBC Life:

  • Maintenance of parking facilities
  • Shuttle buses (UMBC Transit)
  • Campus program of traffic control
  • Administration of the Student Parking Appeals Board (part of the Student Judicial Board)

Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) has been collecting ridership statistics and report that total ridership has gone from 169,000 to 366,000 in the past three years. With this growth, some administrative issues have arisen. Parking and Transportation services therefore proposes a 1.4% fee increase to the full-time undergraduate PTF. This added revenue would be used to fund an additional support position at PTS.

Support would come in the form of (1) better statistics gathering from swipe-card readers, (2) better vehicle tracking, (3) the procurement of final destination statistics, (4) idle-time tracking, and (5) video production for new driver training programs.

For full-time undergraduates: The fee is currently $442 per year and there is a proposed $6 per year (1.4%) increase. This will make the total fee $448 per year.

For part-time students and graduate students: There is no proposed fee increase for part-time undergraduates or graduate students, meaning that the fee will remain $22 per credit hour.
